The Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) management and staff officially welcomed the newly appointed Mining Minister, Hon. Wake Goi MP, to the MRA on yesterday.
Minister Goi, who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Jimi electorate in Jiwaka Province and is a member of the People’s Party, met with MRA Managing Director Jerry Garry, management team, and staff during his visit to the Mining Haus.
Accompanying Minister Goi were his wife, Mrs. Goi, First Secretary Reuben Daniel, former Governor of Jiwaka Dr. William Tongamp, People’s Party executives, and officials from the Jimi District.
In his welcome address, MRA Managing Director Jerry Garry said:
“Minister, I assure you that the MRA team has a wealth of mining expertise to support you. Together, we can position ourselves to drive the industry forward,” Mr. Garry stated.
He emphasized that the mining industry is the largest contributor to the national purse every year, though it also presents unique challenges and complexities. Mr. Garry provided Minister Goi with an overview of the MRA and the mining sector, including important export revenue statistics and the key challenges currently faced.
In his address to the MRA staff, Hon. Goi encouraged collaboration between his office and the MRA to fulfill the government’s agenda of “Take Back PNG.” He expressed a strong desire for the country to receive a fair share from the exploitation of its natural resources while ensuring that investors realize adequate Returns on Investments (RoI). The Minister pledged to provide essential political support and leadership to the MRA and the mining sector, ensuring that all stakeholders are effectively served.
Following the introductory session, Minister Goi was given a guided tour of the country’s Mineral Production Data Monitoring Hub and Data Repository, highlighting the MRA’s commitment to effective resource management and transparency.
