Port of Kiunga Secures International Stamp of Approval, Enhancing Trade and Investment Opportunities

Ok Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) was recently awarded the Statement of Compliance (SOC) for its Kiunga Port, marking a significant milestone in ensuring the port’s adherence to the International Ship Port Security (ISPS) Code.

OTML Corporate Affairs Manager, Dexter Wagambie, received the SOC on behalf of the company and congratulated the OTML Asset Protection and Kiunga Operations teams who worked closely with the Department of Transport compliance team to arrive at this outcome.

“The successful achievement of this compliance status means that Kiunga Port has been assessed and certified to comply with international operational standards, with the SOC being valid for the next five years,” Mr Wagambie said.

“Congratulations to Ok Tedi and in particular, the Asset Protection Department (APD) and Kiunga Operations team for the collaborative effort in ensuring the OTML Kiunga Port operates at an international standard,” he said.

The SOC was officially presented by the Department of Transport Acting Secretary, Mathew Wowoni, and former Secretary, Roy Mumu, who played an essential role in issuing the previous SOCs.

Mr Wowoni, recognised the crucial role of the Kiunga Port in supporting both the national economy, the well-being of local communities and the importance of OTML’s contributions to Papua New Guinea.

In addition to the SOC, the Kiunga Wharf has been registered on the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Website as a compliant port, reinforcing its status within the international shipping community.

OTML is committed to operating with excellence, ensuring safe and efficient shipping practices, while strengthening its operations to deliver maximum return to PNG shareholders, mine impacted communities and the people of Papua New Guinea.
