Newmont Announces Bronze Sponsorship for GEE 2024 Conference

Newmont Corporation has officially announced its Bronze category sponsorship of the Geoscience, Exploration & Extraction Conference (GEE) 2024, set to take place from August 7-9.

At a ceremony held at the Mining Haus, Newmont’s Country Manager, Stanley Komunt, presented a dummy cheque to Jerry Garry, Managing Director of the Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) and Patron of the conference.

During the presentation, Mr. Komunt expressed Newmont’s enthusiasm for supporting the event, stating, “As a major player in the PNG Mining Industry, we are pleased to back the GEE 2024 conference. This is a significant event that will contribute to the development of our mining sector and the country at large through vital information sharing.” He emphasized that the conference serves as a platform for important discussions and voiced Newmont’s eagerness to continue its partnership in the future.

Mr. Komunt also highlighted the anticipation of Newmont’s geoscientists and technical teams to participate in the upcoming event, reflecting on the knowledge gained from the inaugural conference held in 2022.

In response, Mr. Garry thanked Newmont for its generous sponsorship and partnership, noting its crucial role in ensuring the successful staging of the conference. He shared that the GEE 2024 Organising Committee is excited by the global interest in the conference, with participants expected from the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and beyond. Some participants will also join via Zoom video conferencing.

Emphasizing the multi-disciplinary nature of the mining industry, Mr. Garry stated, “The GEE 2024 conference will bring together geologists, engineers, metallurgists, accountants, community affairs personnel, health workers, and various other professionals.” He expressed the committee’s commitment to making the conference an inclusive event, where individuals from diverse fields can share ideas, research findings, experiences, and collaboratively address common challenges. Participants will include representatives from universities, non-governmental organizations, and public service sectors.

The theme for the GEE 2024 Conference is “Research & Innovation in Geosciences, Exploration & Extraction for Sustainability.”
